Missouri University Science and Technology professor Jeffery Volz is leading a study to increase the amount of fly ash used in concrete. Currently, concrete speficifications limit the amount of fly ash in concrete to about 40 percent, but recent studies suggest that 75 percent replacement rates still result in strong and durable product. If Volz's research is successful, the higher substitution rate could help reduce CO2 emissions.
