Third-year Urban Planning + Design students in the UMKC (AUP+D) will present site plans that reveal a long-term vision for the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, Mo. Kansas City design professionals will judge the UP+D Prize competition.
Led by Ted Seligson, FAIA and visiting professor, and Michael Frisch, AICP and associate professor, the Urban Planning + Design Studio II focused on the north edge of the Plaza. What was once a residential neighborhood, supported by neighborhood retail on the Plaza, is transitioning into other uses, such as office space. These other uses generate different patterns of parking and circulation than retail, and neighborhood circulation and land use patterns are facing development pressures. The students' plans will include decisions about the direction of land use change through 2030.
