Partnership fosters culture of innovation and collaboration
This week marks a fruitful two years for the , a partnership between the University of Missouri and Cerner.
The Tiger Institute is facilitating a statewide alliance of health care organizations that can improve health care through health information technology and collaborative innovations with physicians and students and researchers from the .
Facilitating innovation
The Tiger Institute recently developed its first iPhone app: , which can be purchased at the Apple Store. The app gives physicians quick access to review clinical information such as allergies and current medications and submit orders. The innovative program is expected to go live at MU Health Care next year.
The Tiger Institute’s strides have not gone unnoticed. In July, MU Health Care was named one of the nation's Hospitals by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine — only one of five hospitals in the state receiving the designation and the only facility in mid-Missouri making the list. The partnership has also helped MU Health Care reach a in its transition from all-paper to all-electronic patient records in its recent Stage 6 achievement of the EMR Adoption Model, as announced by HIMSS Analytics, a national company that evaluates hospitals’ progress in implementing electronic medical records. Of 151 hospitals and health systems in Missouri, only 16 have reached Stage 6. To date, only 197 of the 5,000 hospitals nationwide have reached this advanced stage of electronic medical records implementation.
Connecting Missouri
The Tiger Institute Health Alliance, a division of the Tiger Institute, is transforming the way health care is delivered by building an alliance of health care organizations with a shared vision to impact community health status. As part of the Tiger Institute for Health Innovation, the alliance leverages the institute’s expertise in advanced patient care delivery and innovative discoveries to provide our members with the resources to positively impact the culture of health within their communities. Starting in mid-Missouri, the alliance will connect hospitals, physicians' offices, patients and other health care providers in a highly secure network, which facilitates decision-making and optimal health outcomes. With growing membership throughout the state, the alliance is designed to empower stakeholders to make mindful health decisions and engage individuals in management of their own health.
As the Tiger Institute flourishes, the real winners are the citizens of Missouri, whose portable electronic medical records will provide medical information that leads to more personalized and timely care regardless of their location.
