Are breast pumps covered under the University medical insurance plans?

Yes, so long as the UM System medical insurance plan member is able to provide a prescription from their physician to obtain the best pump, which is considered durable medical equipment (DME). To receive coverage with no out-of-pocket costs, plan members must obtain manual breast pumps from in-network DME providers. Plan members may also obtain manual electric pumps through an in-network DME provider subject to the applicable plan deductible and co-insurance.

Visit the breastfeeding supplies, support, and counseling webpage for more information.
