"I am saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Mel George who served as UM System interim president twice—once post-retirement. His passion for higher education was strong as he provided a constant reminder of the importance of having a respectful campus environment through his “Statement of Values” read at the start of MU Faculty Council meetings during his time as a professor. The UM System will forever be indebted to Mel’s guidance and wisdom during an eventful time in Missouri’s history."
